The PD-151 was designed to provide music lovers with an unparalleled analog audio experience through vinyl phonograph records, which remain a popular medium for music playback. The new PD-151 MARK II model inherits the excellent performance and aesthetic beauty of its predecessor, while also featuring a highly sensitive original specification tonearm. This highly anticipated model sets a new standard for belt-drive integrated analog players, delivering truly authentic analog vinyl playback excellence that transports the listener to a world distinct from digital audio.

Key Features:

  • Tonearm with knife edge bearing
  • High precision/ High torque proprietary DC motor
  • High-Mass platter and highly rigid stainless-steel spindle
  • 3-step rotation speed switching with independent adjustment functions
  • Height adjustable damping insulators
  • Optional LMC-5 Moving Coil Cartridge

The Luxman PD-151 MARK II now comes with an upgraded tonearm, the LTA-309, which uses knife edge bearing technology from the renowned Japanese brand SAEC. With over 40 years of experience, SAEC has developed a static balance type tone arm that offers optimal playback quality. The arm base is made of machined aluminium, which reduces contact area and minimises unwanted vibration while maintaining rigidity. Along with basic adjustment mechanisms, such as stylus pressure and anti-skating, LTA-309 also supports fine adjustments like arm height to optimise sound quality, based on the mounted cartridge. This tonearm has an S-shaped design and uses an H4 bayonet mount headshell, which makes it easy to install phono cartridges such as the Luxman LMC-5.

New High precision/ High torque proprietary DC motor

To ensure musical pitch purity, Luxman uses a unique sine wave/Pulse Width Modulation power supply, providing ultra-stable direct current to their proprietary DC brushless motor. The motor incorporates low-acoustic noise bearings and internal construction. The Proportional-Integral-Differential (PID) feedback control loop monitors and maintains speed, while the motor drives the outside flange of the platter through an uncommonly wide belt for stable 33, 45, and 78RPM playback speeds. A +/-6% manual pitch control adjustment is also available.

High-mass platter and highly rigid stainless-steel spindle

Luxman engineers optimised the platter assembly in the PD-151 MARK II to ensure stable speed. The 4.0kg platter is precision machined from thick aluminium billet, diamond-cut, and acts as a flywheel with a large moment of inertia (0.219t·cm2). The spindle is a highly rigid, 16mm diameter, hard stainless-steel shaft with bearings at the lower end. The bearing structure combines a thrust bearing lubricated with PEEK (polyetheretherketone) material, with excellent heat and wear resistance, and a brass radial bearing filled with organic molybdenum oil. The turntable mat is made of special vibration-absorbing rubber material.

Luxman exterior design pursuing functional beauty

The PD-151 MARK II inherits the design and layout of its predecessor, the PD-151. The top panel is made from 10mm thick aluminium with a delicate hairline finish, offering simplicity and functional beauty. The operational controls are integrated into the front panel for intuitive operability and visibility. The visual contrast comes from the exquisite aluminium top panel and matte black lower housing. An optional 4mm thick acrylic dust cover is available, equipped with cam/spring supporting hinges for easy opening and smooth closure.

3-step rotation speed switching with independent adjustment functions

The PD-151 Mark II supports three rotation speeds: 33 1/3, 45 and 78 rpm. With the whole system prepared independently for each rotation speed, it is possible to make fine and accurate adjustments while observing the rotation speed deviation indicator (LED).

Internal damping material

To accurately detect and reproduce an extremely low-level analogue audio signal and deliver the output to an amplifier without deterioration, unwanted vibrations must be thoroughly suppressed. In the PD-151 MARK II, the drive motor and power transformer, often sources of such vibrations, are mounted with special damping rubber to prevent interference with high-quality audio signals.

Optional LMC-5 Moving Coil Cartridge

Luxman's latest phono cartridge, the LMC-5, is designed to capture all the musical information pressed on a record. With 40 years of experience, the MC-type power generation engine features a cross-mounted iron core with a compact magnetic system to improve efficiency. For the vibration detection system, the cartridge features an aluminium cantilever and a SHIBATA stylus, known for its excellent tracing ability. The unique housing structure was developed through repeated prototyping and fine-tuning. We have designed this cartridge with confidence for all vinyl lovers who value its musicality.
